CHARACTER RIGGING REEL

This video features an cartoony auto-rig that I've written in MEL script. Here are some of the features:

User-Interface • Built in QT, this interface has some useful buttons for orienting the setup skeleton after placement is complete, creating the rig, creating a skinning skeleton based on the rig and attaching/detaching the skinning skeleton to the control joints on the rig.

Setup skeleton • This skeleton is used by the autorig to find joint positions, joint orientation and rotation orders. It can be set up to be asymmetrical or the placement of the joints can be mirrored interactively with a click of the "mirror" button in the UI

Bendy/Stretchy Limbs • The limbs have extra bendy controls and a blendable attribute that softens/curves the bends at the elbows and knees. The limbs can stretch as well. Length and elbow/knee position can also be tweaked by the animator.

IK/FK Spine • The spine is built to allow the animator to rotate the controls in an FK fashion while allowing for them to move the controls just like an IK spine.

No-Flip Legs • This eliminates the flipping knee effect animators sometimes get when putting the foot in certain locations.

IK fingers • Similar to the bend and side2side motion created in Jason Schleifer's JJ hand rigs.

IK/FK matching • Found on the R mouse button pop-up window.

This video also features a facial rig that I built a while ago in Maya.

I try to use my knowledge as an animator to make the control rigs as intuitive as possible. I hope you like the Rigs!
